The 1979 Forward Chemicals Tournament

By Elliott West
Introduction

This was a non-ranking tournament, played only on one occasion between October 1978 and January 1979. In an event that was similar to the famed Park Drive 2000 events, four professionals played each other three times in a round-robin format at various venues across the country with the two best performing players reaching the final.

The final was played at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester and was a matchup of two adversaries of the period, John Spencer and Ray Reardon. On this occasion, Ray Reardon got the better of John Spencer and won the match 9-6.
