For Sale

Introduction

Ever wondered how the other half lives? Well thanks to a house recently going on sale, we have been given a rare treat into the life of a snooker player behind closed doors. I am of course talking about the home of former world champion, John Higgins. The Scot who lives with his family in Lanarkshire beside the River Clyde in Bothwell lives amongst a treasure trove of snooker memories, a luxury mansion that houses a large cabinet of silverware and a detached games room with a full-sized snooker table.

A Princely Sum

Some of you may be asking be wondering how much this house will set you back? Well take a deep breath because, in order to be handed over the keys to this house, you would have to part with a staggering amount of money, an eye-watering £825,000 to be precise and that’s just for an empty house and the knowledge that a snooker legend formerly resided there.

The house has five bedrooms and boasts being decorated to a high standard in a location that is set back and offers a great amount of privacy to the potential new owner. The sales brochure describes the house as follows:

“Built by Bryant country Homes circa 2002, this spacious and beautifully presented family villa offers great sized rooms which are particularly versatile in their use.

“The bedrooms are generously sized and have excellent built-in storage whilst the master bedroom has a dressing area. Additional features include gas central heating, double glazing and a security alarm system.

“Occupying one of the best plots within the development and enjoying great privacy the home sits within well-kept gardens which are laid to lawn, driveway to the front whilst the enclosed rear garden has a substantial patio area and backs onto mature woodland.”

Reportedly having made more than nine million pounds in career earnings, John Higgins, who has been ranked number one four times, lives with his wife Denise and his children. Married in 2000, John was awarded an MBE in 2008 for his services to snooker and has recently started a fitness regime to shed the pounds in a local spinning class before the start of the new snooker season next week.

Higgins’ home, described as a ‘villa’, currently acts as a legacy to the Scot’s success as a snooker player. With walls adorned with photographs of his victories on the green baize and a picture of John, as a plastic toy, sitting on the top of a toilet underneath a mirror emblazoned with the Celtic Football Club crest. Not bad for a sportsman who first turned professional in 1992 but subsequently racked up 31 ranking titles, including four world crowns, three UK Championships and two Masters. A house that may be sold for the same price or more and is a true treat for anyone lucky enough to be able to purchase it.
