Introduction
Billy Joe Castle is a professional snooker player and has in recent years, started to make an impression on the main tour but with limited success. Describing his current progress as being “frustrating”, Castle remains at the lower end of the rankings and is currently positioned 100 out of 128 players. The Marchwood potter doesn’t appear very often on the television table and is one of a number of players that is desperate to do well and showcase the potential that made them a professional player in the first place.
A Christmas Gift
Billy recently took part in the Scottish Masters and lost in the first round to Andy Hicks, 2-4. He blamed his defeat on his cue and his tip being too small. Congratulating Hicks on his win, he said he started well but Hicks ended up being the stronger of the two players. Although it was a close match, Castle only has one item on his Christmas list and that is a new cue. He believes that a new cue will kickstart his form and hopefully produce some desperately needed victories. Losing also in the first round of the UK Championship, 3-6 to Hossein Vafaei, Castle still feels more confident and described his game of starting to be “in good nick”.
Conclusion
Billy Joe Castle is clearly a good player but he works in an environment that is ruled by a number of prolific players. For a lower ranking player, a win is sometimes more important than a tournament win and it is about building on these wins to achieve tournament success. Castle deserves success and wish him well in the future with his new cue.
